Ryan Abbott, MD, JD, MTOM of UCLA Center for East-West Medicine presents on the Affordable Care Act and the Regulatory Process.

The Affordable Care Act is the most significant legislative change to our health care system in a generation. Yet the Act and its implementation remain controversial, with some of the most significant provisions of the law scheduled to come into force next year. This lecture will explore the regulatory process taking place downstream of the ACA's passage. It will provide an overview of the central tenets of the Act, including efforts to expand insurance coverage. It will then describe the rule-making process through which laws such as the ACA result in detailed regulations, with a focus on how some of the innovative payment mechanisms and delivery systems mandated by the ACA have changed since the law was enacted.
