Amidst the surging interest in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Tong Ren Tang, a renowned leading Chinese herbal company founded in 1669 by Yue Xiangyang who served in the imperial court, has recently opened a new store, which includes clinical practice in Arcadia in Southern California. This store in Los Angeles is one of the four new Tong Ren Tang establishments in North America (three new stores were also concurrently opened in San Francisco, Vancouver and New York City, respectively). Dr. Ka-Kit Hui, founder and director of the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine and chair of the UCLA Collaborative Centers for Integrative Medicine who is as a dual East-West trained physician, was invited by KABC-TV to be interviewed by Denise Dador from KABC-TV to share his views on a major Chinese herbal company landing in the North America market and the importance of orchestrating the use of Chinese herbal medicine, TCM and western medicine. In his interview, Dr. Hui comments on the efficacy of TCM in helping to restore balance in the body and enhance the body's natural resistance to stressors. He also comments on the importance in combining TCM and western medicine appropriately to enhance benefits and avoid adverse side effects.
