An Effective Integrative Medicine Model

"How Healthcare Can Work Better"

By: UCLA Center for East-West Medicine

Healthcare has become a major issue in the U.S. concerning economic sustainability and quality of patient care. Follow Dr. Ka-Kit Hui and leading experts as they explain the potential impact of integrative medicine in providing solutions at the individual and society level. This unique approach of merging the systems of Eastern and Western medicine allows us to combine the understanding of balance, flow and spirit with biomedicine’s strengths in disease detection, acute condition management and vital system stabilization. An effective integrative medicine model would shift the focus to patient-oriented care, prevention, early disease recognition and health promotion. This task will require the concerted effort and collaborative spirit through inter-professional education, the scientific community, policymakers and the public.

“It is much more important to know what sort of patient has a disease than what sort of disease a patient has.”

-Sir William Osler
